Nello Rebuilds Avalon Court Apartments

Waynesburg, PA - Nello Construction was recently hired to reconstruct the Avalon Court apartment complex located on East Greene Street.

In the early morning of April 22, a devastating fire tore through the 40-unit senior housing complex killing two women and leaving seven people hospitalized.

Of the 40 apartments in the building, 38 were occupied at the time of the fire. The building is owned by the Greene County Housing Authority, who is currently providing resources and shelter for residents injured in the blaze.

In addition to the Housing Authority, the community has responded with support to those who have temporarily lost their homes.  Community Action Southwest is distributing household items and cleaning supplies that were collected through a drive at the Waynesburg Wal-Mart.  In addition, the Salvation Army Greene County Service Center is providing 22 kitchen items for each resident.

Nello Construction is collaborating with Altman and Altman Architects to make the space livable once again. Together, the companies will execute a scope that includes vast modifications and updates to the building.

While the shell of the building remains intact, the rehab will include a new roof, windows, elevator, HVAC system, plumbing, electrical and federal ADA updates. The building is scheduled to be enclosed by mid-October.

There is a fund to assist the victims, established by Community Bank. Checks can be made payable to "Avalon Court Fire Victims Fund" and dropped off at any Community Bank branch or mailed to the Greene County Housing Authority, P.O. Box 791, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
