Moon High School Awards Contract to Nello

After 10 years and three plans, the Moon Area school board this week approved spending nearly $64 million for a new high school off University Boulevard.

The 186,000-square-foot building, which will house nearly 1,200 students in grades nine to 12, is scheduled to open in 2010.

The $61.7 million in contracts awarded this week for the construction of Moon Area High School include:

• $38.6 million to Nello Construction of Canonsburg
• $7.6 million to A. J. Demor & Sons Inc., Monroeville
• $3.08 million to Vrabel Plumbing of Hampton
• $5.8 million to Clista Electric Inc., Plum
• $2.37 million to Merit Electrical Group, South Side
• $1.45 million to Polyvision of Dixonville in Indiana County
• $982,744 to Aqua Pools Inc. of East Pittsburgh
• $305,000 to Tower Engineering of Ross
